On 21,22 and 23 June 2018, the inaugural edition of the ‘Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition’ (RIDCC) will be presented in Theater Rotterdam. The
contest is open to choreographers from the Netherlands and beyond – and specifically welcomes duets in all dance styles. This contest is unique for being the world’s only competition dedicated exclusively to duets. Its principal aim is to support the development of new dance talent, and offer emerging choreographers a chance to advance their careers in the choreography world. The RIDCC is set to be an annual event. The winner receives a €100.000 production budget – making the RIDCC the choreography contest with the highest prize money in the world.
The competition is a chance for new, talented choreographers to have their work seen by a distinguished jury. Finalists can win a variety of prizes: from money to be invested in development trajectories, to an opportunity to produce productions with one of the renowned partner companies. The top honour is a production budget of €100.000. Maya Roest and Mischa van Leeuwen, both seasoned dancers with Scapino Ballet Rotterdam are the RIDCC’s creators: “We want to draw on our expertise to create opportunities for young choreographers, and bring vital new voices to the dance world.”
Applications close on 1 April 2018
Choreographers from the Netherlands and throughout the world, have until 1 April to apply. The contest is open solely to duets. Choreographers are welcome to submit both new work and pieces no older than March 2016. Sixteen pieces will be chosen from the submissions. The preliminary rounds take place on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 June in the small theatre at Theater Rotterdam, at the ‘schouwburg’ location. The finale will be held on Saturday 23 June in the large theatre, when the professional jurors will announce the winners of the first edition of the Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition.
