Starting from 2019, Holland Dance Festival and Luxor Theater Rotterdam have joined forces to bring exclusive dance performances to Rotterdam, which would otherwise not be seen in the Netherlands. World-class international dance companies will be exclusively presented in Rotterdam every year. These performances will be enhanced by an extensive side-programme that consists of meet-and-greets, introductions, post-performance discussions, workshops and much more. The collaboration is made possible by the Foundation Droom en Daad. This foundation invests in culture in Rotterdam, because art and culture contribute to a richer existence, both for individuals and society in general. Negotiations are currently underway with various dance companies from around the world in order to establish a programme for the coming years.
Samuel Wuersten, Artistic and General Director of the Holland Dance Festival and member of the Executive Board of Codarts Rotterdam:
“The New Luxor Theater is a highly suitable location for this with its gorgeous hall, the large stage and the technical facilities to be able to present spectacular, world-class dance productions at the highest level. The theater ‘across the bridge’ already appeals to its own audience and offers outstanding possibilities to further develop an audience for dance.”
Marc van Kaam, Director Luxor Theater Rotterdam:
“We want to bring the world’s best dance companies to the Netherlands on an exclusive basis. The prestigious Holland Dance Festival is internationally renowned and has many contacts with the leading dance companies from around the world. Getting these top dance companies to come to the Netherlands is easier said than done. During the past edition of the Holland Dance Festival, we succeeded, among others, in presenting the Martha Graham Dance Company before a sold-out audience at the New Luxor Theater. This success really gave us a taste for more!”
