“Meet the new dance and choreography talents from 'dance country' Israel ”
In the world of contemporary dance, the work of Israeli choreographers has occupied a prominent place for years. The tense situation in which the citizens of Israel continuously live, seems to reflect itself in contemporary dance: many choreographers from Israel are bold, if not aggressive, dynamic, and provocative. It’s filled with a fighting spirit and there’s always something brewing just underneath the surface, which makes even the most lyrical dance pieces highly charged.
New choreographic program
That makes it interesting for an international dance biennial to stay on the ball and closely follow the latest developments in Israeli dance. For that reason, Holland Dance Festival developed a new choreographic program, together with the acclaimed Suzanne Dellal Centre in Tel Aviv, 1|2|3 Tel Aviv, which encourages the development of young, upcoming Israeli and Palestinian choreographers. The program encompasses three phases, in which the selected young makers create a solo, a duet, and a trio. The first phase starts off with ten choreographers, after which a professional jury evaluating their work decreases their number during the next two phases, until the most promising choreographers remain.
During this festival edition, you’ll see the highlights of this choreographic project: the most beautiful solos, duets, and trios. Prior to these dance gems, you’ll also get to know the contemporary dance talent from Israel. The performance kicks off with an exceptionally vibrant show by Dancing Outside, a pre-professional program at the Suzanne Dellal Centre offering young dancers – of 19 and 20 years old – the opportunity to prepare themselves for their professional career and to prove themselves in the work of established choreographers
