Batsheva Dance Company - Venezuela
“Venezuela, with its wonderful dancers, is a fascinating and multifaceted piece that contains a surprise that remains with the viewer long after leaving the theater”
Please note: on 26 January Ohad Naharin will give a short post-performance talk.
After almost thirty years he resigned as artistic director, but as a resident choreographer Ohad Naharin still determines the artistic identity of the world-renowned Batsheva Dance Company from Israel. Holland Dance Festival proudly presents the Dutch debut of his youngest masterpiece: Venezuela.
A ‘sensational trip’ in which Naharin and his dancers – to music that varies from Gregorian singing to rap – explore both the dialogue and the conflict between movement and its meaning. Their weapon? Dance full of tangible energy, spectacular jumps, spasms, shocking bodies and uncompromising lifts. The urgency of the movement language, the way in which the dancers switch from tenderness to frenetic virtuosity in a matter of seconds and the questions raised by Naharin make Venezuela a production with a message. Moreover, the work optima forma demonstrates the power of the Batsheva Dance Company: creative, committed, extremely musical and infinitely passionate.
This production is a co-presentation by Holland Dance Festival and Internationaal Theater Amsterdam.
