DanceAble #3 | Performance
“Step into the Future”
If there is anything that is associated with a motorically perfectly functioning body, it is the form of art and movement we call dance. It is exactly this assumption that Holland Dance Festival wants to tackle by organising DanceAble #3 coming November. During this two-day event in The Hague, inclusion dance becomes visible and tangible. It grants dancers with or without a disablility the opportunity to develop themselves and it offers a stage for multiple performances. Also knowledge on the topic of inclusion dance will be shared.
As part of the third edition of the DanceAble event, Holland Dance Festival presents a unique view on inclusive dance productions on Friday November 29th. Holland Dance Festival invited a colourful palette of makers and artists, which guarantee a diverse and surprising dance evening. Every movement is thoughtful, compelling and shows the power of the human body – with or without limitations. Innovative duets of the Mixed Doubles series will be followed by a performance by the international Artist in Residence project (AIR). Finally, a sample of the new, first inclusive dance production by Jasper van Luijk will be released. In short: a unique dance evening that you don’t want to miss!
Duets
SALLY creates special dance performances and interactive dance projects for all ages. Based in Maastricht, SALLY challenges young dancers and choreographers to bring their talents to fruition. Abstraction and realism come together in a unique signature that distinguishes SALLY from others, as will be seen in their duet on DanceAble #3.
Thanks to Dansateliers, Theater Babel Rotterdam has created one of the Mixed Doubles for DanceAble #3. Theater Babel Rotterdam is an inclusive theatre company that is the only professional theatre that works structurally with actors with and without disabilities.
Theater Babel Rotterdam makes inclusive theatre. Part of Babel’s working method is what they call ‘the caravan’; actors with and without disabilities in the company follow training courses 3 days a week, 30 weeks a year.
De Maas company produces quality theatre and dance in all shapes and sizes: large hall performances, small school projects, festival acts, location theatre and a dance duet during DanceAble #3. Like always, contact between the audience and the people on stage plays an important role.
Artist in Residence project (AIR)
Under the artistic direction of Marc Brew of AXIS Dance Company, Holland Dance Festival hosts an Artist in Residence project (AIR), as part of DanceAble #3. During this residency, which is part of the European project Europe Beyond Access, the development and connecting of dance talent plays a central role. Brew will embark on this adventure with up-and-coming Dutch and Polish artists, supplemented by two experienced dancers from the AXIS Dance Company. This tableau of dancers with and without disabilities will meet and work for two weeks from November 18th onwards in a dance studio in The Hague. They will give a short presentation on the results of the AIR project on the opening night of DanceAble #3.
Preview SUM of US
There will also be a preview of the performance SUM of Us during DanceAble #3. In collaboration with choreographer Jasper van Luijk and his company SHIFFT Utrecht, Holland Dance Festival is working on a new inclusive production. This production will premiere during the Holland Dance Festival 2020 and then go on a tour through the Netherlands. SUM of Us is a dance performance about taking risks. The dancers go on a search for risks together, both within their own physical and mental boundaries and within the group as a whole.
