Classical ballet with a contemporary expression. That’s how the work of Thierry Malandain – according to critics France’s top choreographer – can best be described. The aesthetic he creates is timeless. During the Holland Dance Festival the company of this famous choreographer Malandain Ballet Biarritz – can be seen from February 2 through 6 with the production La Belle et la Bête, based on one of the world’s most famous folk tales. Malandain’s interpretation is a piece for 22 dancers filled with innovative ideas and elegant dance, driven by the inner dualism of the beast. During the Holland Dance Festival Françoise Dubuc, ballet master of the company will give a ballet workshop.
About Françoise Dubuc
Françoise Dubuc started her career at Het Nationale Ballet in Amsterdam and subsequently danced at the Ballet Théâtre Français de Nancy, where she was first soloist for three seasons and danced with Rudolf Noureev. In 1986 she left the company in Nancy after which she founded, together with Thierry Malandain, the company Company Temps Présent. She also opened her own dance academy in Pau, where she taught for eight years. In 1998 she once again joined Thierry Malandain to open the National Choreographic Center in Biarritz, where she mainly focused on raising awareness in the young audience. She is currently ballet master at the Malandain Ballet Biarritz and she is responsible for transferring Mandalain’s ballets to French and foreign companies.
About the workshop
The workshop by Françoise Dubuc will start with classical technique and exercises at the barre, then you will use the space. If there is a desire for footed point work it can be accommodated.
