DanceAble dancer Cecile (17) rolls half marathon in Leiden for muscle disease research!

13 May 2025

Last Sunday, DanceAble dancer Cecile impressively participated in the Leiden half marathon. Despite a progressive, unknown muscle disease - diagnosed when she was just four years old - the 17-year-old dancer did not let it stop her from taking on the sporting challenge: rolling the 21.1 kilometres within 2:00 hours.

Cecile, together with her sister Isabeau and brother-in-law Milan, took part in the 21.1-kilometre distance of the Leiden Half Marathon. Sporting and determined, Milan pushed Cecile forward in her wheelchair, while Isabeau walked along to set the pace and clear the way. Together, Team ‘Cecile op rolletjes’ not only made it to the finish line, but also managed to finish in an instant time of 1:59:16.

With their participation, the trio raised an impressive sum of almost 5,000 euros (€4808) for the Prinses Beatrix Spierfonds, Holland Dance Festival's long-standing cooperation partner. The fund supports scientific research into conditions like Cecile's, with hopes of better treatments in the future.

We are incredibly proud of Cecile and her family for this special achievement!
