Julia Gat's Photo exhibition 'PHOTOGRAPHING LOVETRAIN2020'

20 February 2025

From Wednesday 26 February, you can visit Julia Gat's Photo exhibition Photographing LOVETRAIN2020 at Amare's Kunstenplein. Julia Gat's photography captures the fleeting moments of dynamic dance work, evolving interpretations and the powerful interplay between movement, sound and light.

Photographing LOVETRAIN2020offers a unique view of LOVETRAIN2020 (at Amare on Th 13 & Fr 14 March) as a living, changing work of art. Photographer Julia Gat will be at the exhibition to talk about her work in person on Wednesday 13 March at 6.30 - 7.15 pm.

Since 2020, photographer Julia Gat has been documenting LOVETRAIN2020, a dance performance choreographed by her father, Emanuel Gat. Through her lens, she captures the many transformations of this work—different dancers, evolving interpretations, and the dynamic interplay between movement, sound, and light. As the official photographer of Emanuel Gat Dance, Julia has followed the company’s journey for nearly a decade, preserving the fleeting moments that define each performance.

Based between Rotterdam and Marseille, Julia Gat works at the crossroads of documentary and portrait photography, exploring human interaction in its purest form. Her work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the 2022 Polyptyque Prize and the 2021 Steenbergen Public Prize, and has been exhibited at institutions such as the Rencontres d’Arles and the Nederlands Fotomuseum.
