Culture platform We Are Public is launching a new campaign directed against the new administration's cultural plans, such as the VAT increase to 21 percent for admission tickets.
Culture is essential to how we are, understand and remember the world. Music, films, visual arts, theater, literature - culture is everywhere and always. It is an indispensable voice that belongs in the middle of society. But it is not a given.
Although culture is barely mentioned in the cabinet's outline agreement, the VAT increase to 21 percent on admission tickets is a solid upcoming blow to the cultural sector. Culture platform We Are Public wants to make a statement to show that many Dutch people have a heart for culture. It already has support from more than 500 cultural institutions and hundreds of creators, from Eye to Frascati and from the Melkweg to Holland Dance Festival.
