Official Launch of InCultuur: Strengthening an Accessible Cultural Sector in The Hague
10 July 2025

On Thursday, July 3rd, Holland Dance Festival attended the launch of the new platform InCultuur, a community in which cultural institutions, artists, policymakers, and experts by experience collaborate to create an accessible cultural sector in The Hague. The platform and its partners strive to foster an inclusive environment where all residents, regardless of disability, can participate in and enjoy art and culture.
Various organizations and partners gathered at the former building of the American Embassy to celebrate the launch of InCultuur. During the event, Marie-José Sondeijker, director of West Den Haag, delivered an inspiring contribution on reaching new audiences. The central question posed was: “How do you reach people who are often not reached?” She emphasized the importance of boundary-breaking collaborations and developing programming that invites inclusion and diversity.
Not only was inclusivity discussed, but accessibility was also actively experienced. Kim Hameete from the advocacy organization Voorall led a short, interactive workshop in Dutch Sign Language. Subsequently, under the guidance of the organization Ogen en oren tekort, attendees visited the exhibition Voorhout Monumentaal, this time experienced from the perspective of people with visual impairments.
The InCultuur event provided abundant inspiration, encouraged exchange among professionals, and convincingly demonstrated what is possible when one truly embraces accessibility, inclusion, and innovation within the cultural sector. The success of this inaugural gathering attests to the potential for further collaboration and development. Together, working towards accessible art in The Hague!
