Samuel Wuersten over Black Sabbath - The Ballet bij De Nieuws BV.

11 June 2024

Ballet is much more than tutus and Swan Lake. Birmingham Royal Ballet proves that with Black Sabbath - The Ballet, which tells the story of the British heavy metal band. Holland Dance Festival director Samuel Wuersten and Kink Distortion DJ Bjorn van Eeuwijk join in.

Early this afternoon, Samuel Wuersten, Holland Dance Festival artistic and general director, and Kink Distortion DJ Bjorn van Eeuwijk joined Radio 1's De Nieuws BV. The dance lover and music lover talked about Black Sabbath - The Ballet, danced by Birmingham Royal Ballet from June 12 to 15 at new Luxor Theater Rotterdam.

Samuel Wuersten: "Black Sabbath stands for renewal, a movement, setting something in motion. In the art of dance, it's actually the same way. The renewal takes place because people come up with something new, something different. Yet it always remains dance. What you can do with it and what you can translate into dance, that's where this development is. A perfect example of a traditional, classical dance company venturing into such an excursion.  [...] To do it anyway and for it to be a success.... I love it."
