In the world of contemporary dance, the work of Israeli choreographers has occupied a prominent place for many years. The tense situation in which the inhabitants of Israel constantly live seems to be reflected in contemporary dance: many choreographies from Israeli soil are bold, if not aggressive, dynamic and challenging. There is a fighting spirit emanating from them and something constantly bubbling under the surface, making even the most lyrical dance pieces charged.
New choreographic program
That makes it interesting, as an international dance biennial, to keep its finger on the pulse and closely follow the latest developments in Israeli dance. For that reason, Holland Dance Festival, together with the renowned Suzanne Dellal Center in Tel Aviv, developed a new choreographic program, 1|2|3 Tel Aviv, which encourages the development of young, emerging Israeli and Palestinian choreographers. The program includes three phases, in which the selected young creators create a solo, a duet and a trio in sequence. The first phase starts with ten choreographers, then their numbers are further reduced at the next two phases after their work is evaluated by an expert jury, until finally the most promising choreographers remain.
Dance gems
During this festival edition you will see the highlights of this choreographic project: the most beautiful solos, duets and trios. The great differences in background, approach and style of the participating choreographers are striking. Prior to these dance gems, you will also be introduced to the contemporary dance talent from Israel. The performance will kick off with an exceptionally vibrant performance by Dancing Outside, a pre-professional program of the Suzanne Dellal Center that offers young dancers - ages 19 and 20 - the chance to prepare for their professional careers and prove themselves in the work of established choreographers.
