On 10 and 12 December, Holland Dance Festival and Team DIK Danstheater will present the choreography Het licht tussen ons (The Light Between Us) and the dance film A Bird Named Mansour.
Both afternoons start with Het licht tussen ons (The Light Between Us); a choreography about the magic that connects us, not always visible, but palpable. A dance about curiosity, courage and friendship. The choreography by Loura Sita van Krimpen and Vincent Dankelman from DIK Danstheater is the result of the inclusion dance project in collaboration with the students of VSO de Piramide & Viertaal College. Since thebeginning of the school year, the students have been working on the choreography with only ten rehearsals, which will be shown during the inclusive dance event. Afterwards, there will be time for a discussion with DIK Danstheater's artistic team and dancers. The afternoon will close with the dance film A Bird Named Mansour by Jordy Dik with the dancers of Shechter II and Compagnie Tiuri. he film is about the simple desire shared by many: to live together in peace.
Programme:
Choreography Het licht tussen ons
Het licht tussen ons (The light between us) is about the magic that connects us, not always visible, but palpable. It is about the stories we carry with us - sometimes spoken, sometimes shouted, and sometimes silent, audible only to those who really listen. Stories of who we were, of today, and a blank page full of possibilities for tomorrow. Timeless stories that colour our existence and shape our desires.
Het licht tussen ons (The light between us) is a dance of curiosity, courage, and friendship. Together, because without you there is no place for the light between us. No place for the story that connects us.
“Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale” – Hans Christian Andersen
Afterword with the artistic team of DIK Danstheater and the dancers
Dance film A Bird Named Mansour
A Bird Named Mansour is based on a world filled with chaos, where children flee their homes in search of safety. It reflects on world leaders who choose violence over saving lives. The story is inspired by the birds around us—symbols of freedom, longing to fly toward a better, more peaceful future. At its heart, the film is about the simple desire shared by many: to live together in peace. But no one can truly be free until we all are. So, what are we waiting for?
The dance film is created by choreographer Jordy Dik in collaboration with the dancers of Compagnie Tiuri (Netherlands) and Shechter II from Hofesh Shechter Company (UK). The film is a poetic ode to the journey of freedom and resonates with the Maya Angelou phrase: “The truth is, no one of us can be free until everybody is free.” In hope for better times. The film was shot in the prestigious Somerset House in London. This project was part of the ‘Fast Forward’ program of Performing Arts Fund NL (2024).
The inclusive dance event is free.
