In After the Silence by Lonneke van Leth Dans, the imagination drifts into a distant future.
The earth has fallen quiet. The seas stand empty, the trees have vanished, and plastic lies everywhere like a strange kind of snow.

Amid the remnants of what was once a vibrant world lives one last human being: the final woodkeeper. Among the ruins, he searches for whatever still holds meaning — memories of the past, fragments of wood he treasures like precious relics.
Through movement and spoken word, this solitary figure shares his story: a tale of longing and hope, of caring for what is fragile, and of what we risk losing — or perhaps can still save — if we choose to protect it together.

Lonneke van Leth Dans is The Hague’s leading dance company for young audiences. Their work blends contemporary dance with theatre and film, crafting performances that spark the senses, touch the heart and ignite the imagination, always with themes that resonate with young viewers.

After the Silence is a poetic, compelling call to look at our world with open eyes — and to consider what we wish to preserve for the future.

At every edition, Holland Dance Festival collaborates closely with dance companies from The Hague. This partnership is woven into our history: since our founding in 1987, the festival has offered not only an international stage for dance, but also a platform for local makers who give the city’s dance landscape its colour and meaning. Alongside major international productions, we proudly highlight the strength of our own city — a city where dance lives, thrives and continues to grow.
