Step into a world of movement, wonder, and play with Playthrough the Beat! Created in just six days by choreographer Tomás Lopes and nine young dancers from Haags HipHop Centrum (H3C), this vibrant dance film transforms Amare into a playground of imagination. Familiar spaces - the foyer, het kunstenplein and the backstage area - will be transformed into explorable spaces.
Inspired by childhood games like hide-and-seek, the film blends urban dance with artistic expression, turning familiar spaces—foyers, plazas, and backstage corners—into a stage for curiosity and joy. Each dancer brings their own style, making the choreography a shared adventure of creativity and discovery.
Choreographer Tomás Lopes describes the process as an immersive and collaborative journey. "As a creator, I was very involved in shaping not only the movements, but also the mood and story of the piece. Each rehearsal felt like a playground in itself - a space where ideas were shared, tested and refined." Each dancer brought a unique style and perspective, so the choreography evolved from the beginning to the desired end result, to which everyone contributed. "Both dancers and technical crew - came together to make this vision a reality."
This project of Holland Dance Festival is part of a broader effort to develop young talent and reimagine dance beyond the traditional stage. Following works like Fabien Prioville’s Homecoming and Miguel Altunaga’s 2.Y.W.3, Playthrough the Beat continues the exploration of movement in Amare.
This project wouldn’t be possible without its partners: Haags HipHop Centrum (H3C), Amare, Omaro Productions, Nederlands Dans Theater & Fonds voor Cultuurparticipatie.
“Seeing the dancers unite as a cohesive group after the entire journey felt like the culmination of the story—a moment of unity and energy that brought everything together.”
— Tomás Lopes, Choreograaf Playthrough the Beat
