“NDT opens the 20th Jubilee Edition of Holland Dance Festival”
Nederlands Dans Theater has been a cornerstone of the Holland Dance Festival since its very beginning.
Together with the City of The Hague, NDT co-founded the festival in 1987. Since then, it has grown into an international meeting place for dance. No edition has ever been complete without NDT – and so, fittingly, the company opens this 20th Jubilee Edition with a spectacular program that bridges past and future.
Jan Martens – World Premiere
NDT proudly welcomes celebrated and unconventional choreographer Jan Martens. Known for his daring and energetic creations, he now presents his first-ever work for NDT 1. His choreographies often depart from contemporary music, yet always venture beyond the expected. This time, Martens turns to the provocative, punk-inspired compositions Pretty by Julia Wolfe and GG Concerto by Hanna Kulenty. The result? A powerful world premiere that celebrates endurance, resistance, brilliance, and rebellion.
Marcos Morau – Horses
Next, associate choreographer Marcos Morau once again draws us into his hallucinatory universe with Horses. Visually stunning, surreal, and gripping, the piece reflects on survival in a world filled with turbulence and change. Through the expressive power of our dancers and the music of Andrzej Panufnik and Caroline Shaw, Morau creates an experience that sweeps you away, breathless.
On February 4, the prestigious Jiří Kylián Ring will be awarded for the tenth time, honoring an individual whose inspiring and indispensable contribution has shaped the Dutch dance landscape.
The performances at Amare, The Hague, will be accompanied live by the Ballet Orchestra. In this way, the Jubilee Edition becomes not only a celebration of dance, but also a tribute to the enduring bond between NDT and Holland Dance Festival – a tradition that has made The Hague a vibrant city of dance for nearly forty years.
