As part of the No Limits Festival's Professionals Programme, Stopgap Dance Company invites you to explore the creative possibilities of audio description. Drawing on the artistic approach behind their production Lived Fiction, this workshop reveals how audio description can do more than make performances accessible. It can become a powerful artistic tool in its own right.
Through a series of practical exercises and moments of reflection, you will explore how language, sound and touch can enrich the sensory experience of a performance. What happens when sight is no longer our primary sense? And what new creative possibilities emerge when audio description becomes an integral part of the artistic process from the very beginning?
For Stopgap Dance Company, accessibility is not an afterthought but an essential part of its artistic vision. This workshop offers an opportunity to discover how this approach can shape choreography, challenge conventions and open up new perspectives for both artists and audiences.
The workshop is led by Lily Norton, Audio Describer and Access Artist at Stopgap Dance Company, alongside Senior Dance Artist Christian Brinklow and dance artist Monique Dior Jarrett.
Open to dancers, performers, choreographers, artists, audio describers and anyone curious about new ways of experiencing dance. No previous experience in dance or audio description is required.The workshop takes place from 13:00 to 16:00, offering plenty of opportunities to experiment, exchange ideas and discover new perspectives on dance.
A Longstanding Creative Partnership
Holland Dance Festival and the UK's Stopgap Dance Company have been working closely together for many years, sharing a commitment to bringing inclusive dance to audiences around the world. This special partnership is also reflected in Lived Fiction, presented as part of the No Limits Festival, with Holland Dance Festival as co-producer.
