An Accident/ a Life and Marc Brew nominated for National Dance Award!

22 April 2025

The shortlist for the 25th edition of the National Dance Awards was announced on Thursday 17 April. Both Marc Brew and An Accident / A Life by Marc Brew and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui are on the list of nominees for the prestigious dance award.

A special, exciting new collaboration between Australian dancer Marc Brew and world-renowned Flemish-Moroccan choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui has resulted in the world premiere of An Accident / A Life at Holland Dance Festival 2024. In this first joint creation, Cherkaoui (choreographer and director) and Brew - himself a dancer and choreographer with a disability - unravel moments from life, exploring profound events and fraught memories, with and without words, through dance, storytelling, film and a car.

An Accident / A Life is a deeply personal and physical solo by Marc Brew looking back on the car accident that radically changed his life and dance career. The performance, co-produced by Holland Dance Festival, has been enthusiastically received in both the UK and the Netherlands and highlights the importance of inclusive and accessible dance. As co-producers, we are proud of this special collaboration and the impact this performance has had internationally. The nomination is a crowning achievement for Marc Brew's work and our shared commitment to multi-voicedness in dance.

The National Dance Awards are presented annually by The Critics' Circle to recognise the leading achievements in the (UK) dance world. They are the only awards given by the body of professional dance critics (a selection of 60 dance writers and critics) and are widely regarded as the most prestigious awards for dance in the UK.

The National Dance Awards ceremony will be held in London on Monday 9 June.
