Dance belongs to everyone and is meant for everyone. Hence, in this festival, we proudly present another edition of Good [old] Times, our biennial production crafted for dancers aged 55 and older. This edition holds special significance, diverging from previous productions that predominantly explored themes associated with aging, such as melancholy, nostalgia, and unfulfilled dreams. Under the artistic direction of choreographer Lonneke van Leth, the seniors, this time, find their stage on the schoolyard. In a vibrant family performance tailored for both the young and the old, Van Leth and her dancers revisit the place where childhood hours unfolded—a place brimming with memories, both delightful and less rosy ones.
Feast of recognition
"A schoolyard is truly society in miniature", Van Leth expresses. "It's a magical place where first loves blossom, jealousy finds a foothold, friendships are cemented, and power struggles and challenges unfold. It's also a space where boredom may reign supreme, yet simultaneously serves as the arena where fears are conquered." From the first preparatory workshop, the choreographer has been looking forward to the creative process. "Among the participating seniors were such distinctive figures and striking faces and personalities. The beauty of aging lies in the increased indifference to others' opinions, allowing these dancers to courageously expose themselves fully."
Van Leth envisions Pauzeparadijs (Break Paradise) to carry a substantial dose of humor, and both the youngest viewers and the older audience will be able to identify with it, also in terms of the choice of music. "It's meant to be a true party."
