Dance is for everyone! That is what Holland Dance Festival stands for.
After a successful edition in 2023, we are pleased to once again offer a Teacher Training Course together with our UK partner Stopgap Dance Company. A training course for dance teachers who work or want to work with dancers with disabilities.
On the weekend of April 20/21, you will deepen your skills of being a dance teacher so that you can work with dancers who are physical or/and mental disability. On one or both days, you will work with Christian Brinklow and Nadenh Poan of Stopgap, who have extensive experience teaching inclusive dance workshops.
Saturday:
During this interactive day, we will discuss, learn about and explore the core principles of inclusive dance and how they can be used throughout a dance class. We will explore different methods of teaching exercises and how to make them as accessible as possible for everybody.
We will discuss the teaching skills we used in the session. There will be many opportunities to reflect and ask questions, so you can relate all you learn to your own teacher practices.
Sunday:
This day we go deeper in the material we worked on in previous sessions (Saturday and/or TTC 2023).
There will be a chance for people to put their discoveries into practice by forming their own exercises and explorations to share with the group. This will be followed by a session based upon ‘translation’ * skills for movement and learning a sequence to put these skills into practice. (* translation: how to get a movement that somebody shows, in your own body with your own physical possiblities.)
We will finish the day with a session based on contact skills, progressing into contact improvisation and how this can be used to create movement sequences. All in an inclusive setting, so dancers using wheelchairs and standing dancers working together. Exploring possiblities instead of boundaries.

13.00 - 14.00 Lunch (self-organized) and networking opportunity
14.00 - 16.00 Programme C
The language on both days is English. The training is intended for dance teachers who already work or intend to work with dancers with a disability. DDO students, HBO third and fourth year students are also welcome to attend this training. Sunday is an in-depth day, intended for teachers with some experience; so at least also attended Saturday or one of last year's TTC days or already have experience from their own practice.
