On Sunday, Feb. 6, the interview at Theater aan het Spui was filmed by multiple cameras and broadcast live via the live stream during the Holland Dance Festival. Cuban Carlos Acosta is one of the greatest international ballet stars of recent decades.

Cuban Carlos Acosta is one of the greatest international ballet stars of recent decades. He was a "principal guest artist" with the British Royal Ballet for many years, as well as performing with numerous prestigious ballet companies, including, for example, the Ballet de l'Opéra National de Paris, American Ballet Theatre and the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow. In 2016 he bid farewell to The Royal Ballet - during which he received a more than 20-minute standing ovation - but still performs regularly, though in recent years only in the contemporary repertoire. He also started his own company, Acosta Danza, in his native Cuba and has been artistic director of the Birmingham Royal Ballet since the early 2020s.

We were extremely looking forward to the arrival of Carlos Acosta with his program, but unfortunately that now looks different due to the Corona restrictions. The England-based Carlos Acosta was still eager to attend Holland Dance Festival and the program has been adjusted. On Sunday, Feb. 6, Samuel Wuersten, artistic director of Holland Dance Festival, entered into an onstage conversation with him and this gave a great insight into Acosta's development and life. This in-depth interview will feature footage and the whole thing will be broadcast via stream through Feb. 19.

The complicated visa procedure to travel from Cuba also affects the dancers of Acosta Danza, who therefore cannot be in the Netherlands in time to perform during Holland Dance Festival. Acosta Danza's performances will be rescheduled for February 2023. Holland Dance Festival will then present the exclusive premiere of this special company in the Netherlands at Luxor Theater Rotterdam.
